“Don’t know how to”: Lack of skills or just an Excuse

Lack of skills or just an Excuse 🚀

Every day we face some of the other challenges when we decide to give up. When asked, we say, I don’t know how to do it
I agree, no one knows everything. But when something is asked to do, most of the time, its something which is already done. It means we are not doing anything exceptional or out-of-the-box.

In my field of profession, this happens regularly. When I am asked to do something or build a new feature in the project I am working on, sometimes for me, it seems impossible to do. So my reply would be, I don’t know how to do it.

When assigned a task, the first thing I do is to look for answers on google. Google is smart enough to show us more than thousands of results, of course, most of them are irrelevant to the topic. I will just browse a few top results, out of which some answers I’ll understand and implement it. If I couldn’t find any answer or come across a solution where somebody like me has answered the question with “impossible”, as I think, I’ll conclude that this is not doable. If I am being questioned more, I would simply say, I don’t know how to do it.

#What next?
If the momentarily created crisis passed, well and good. But sometimes, it becomes a priority thing or you can say need to do it by any means. In that case, I’ll go back to those google-ed results. Try harder to understand the solutions, stay awake all night to solve the challenge, take help from others, and somehow manage to solve it.

#Sweet taste of Victory

I have noticed this very often, once I solve a challenge, which I used to believe was impossible, makes me very happy. Feels like winning a War. In this happiness, I forget the fact that this was always do-able. If I would have tried the same thing in the beginning, I could have solved it. But I might not have felt this sweetness of victory, I guess 😉

#Bitter Truth

I wouldn’t say, that everybody knows everything. But if we try to face the challenge, we can overcome every challenge[… well, most of the cases]. We should learn to embrace the challenges, not try to dodge them. Once we solve a challenge, we always find it easy next it comes in our way, or when we have to guide someone. So it’s we are learning things.
Most of the time we avoid it for reasons like we feel lazy about doing it, or we don’t want to make our positions vulnerable by asking a colleague, fearing this could be a lame question, or simply want to avoid it because we assume that the requirement is unnecessary. It proves that I don’t know how to do it, is just an Excuse. And if we continue to do this, it might lead to Lack of skills, because we have always tried to hide from the challenges.
