The Homecoming

🏡 Home is where our story begins…
It’s been 8 days since I’m back home. There are somethings which I love about the place and I would like to share. I have been staying away from home, in Delhi for the last 4 years. No doubt, I love Delhi, but every place has its own charm. I’ll speak about the things I love about Bhubaneswar.
#Weather
Due to its geographical location, here, its neither scorching heat nor the heavy downpour. Its something I would say very well balanced. If the days are hot, so in the next few days, it will rain, cooling down the weather for days. Staying in Delhi, I badly missed the pleasant earthly smell of soil after rain. The early morning cold breezes, no matter how hot the day was. It’s so pleasant that I prefer sleeping in the morning with windows open.
#Evening Prayers
This is one of those things which I love and reminds me the most about my childhood, the Sandhya Arti. When it’s around 05:30–06:00 in the evening, you’ll get to hear the sounds of the ringing hand-held puja bell or Ghanti, the aroma of the lights with wicks soaked in ghee and the sounds of the conch shell. This is very soothing and relaxing. I realized this when I moved out of Bhubaneswar.
#Utterly Delicious Meals
Even after staying out, trying out different cuisines, nothing can beat the delicious Odia dishes. Plus topped with a mother’s love for her son, my day starts with interesting breakfast every day, [Idli with chutney, Puri with aloo dum, dosa with sambar, and even sometimes chocos with milk 😉]. At around 12:30–01:00 in the afternoon, a meal or thali, with at least 5 different Odisha special items, something which mostly you will find only in Odisha, [cooked rice, dal fry are fixed with saga(leafy vegetable) bhaja, kalara bhaja(pan-fried bitter gourd), baingan bharta(mashed roasted aubergine), Dahi bhindi, Dahi gobi, and many more 😁]. Every day I am having my favourite evening snack, chiwda(beaten rice flakes) fry with lots of peanuts, onion and coriander. And for dinner, something light (which here they think is light 😜), 3–4 chapattis(roti) with gravy based curry and a must cucumber and tomato salad.

Near after 4 and a half years, I have got this opportunity to observe my hometown so closely. Earlier, my visit to hometowns was always for a maximum of 5–7 days. But this time, there is no hurry to go back. I’m here for at least 2–3 months.
Hope to explore more such beauty of this place and do all those things which I used to do during my college days.
Waiting for the situation to normalize from this pandemic situation.
