Does it really matter?

There are a few things which I have noticed or experienced in the last few years. Learned new things related to life. Some I agree, and to some, I don’t. If we see these things on the basis of “Does it really matter”, I would like to address some of my observations.

#Am I satisfied with my Job?

Just after I graduated, I joined a startup. At that time it was something new, at least for me. I had no idea what a startup is. After I joined, slowly I learned in and out about it. From no professional skills to developing my skills enough to survive in this. Met a lot of people and learned about their views. I tried to blend in picking up carefully a few things which I find reasonable. Of course, I have made some mistakes though. Now recently the startup has been acquired by an established organization. From a team to 4–5 to now its more than 150 people.

Does it really matter? : Yes. I have selflessly devoted my 4 years for the company. I did this because I have got satisfaction with what I am doing. I liked everything [… most of it] what I got. So yes, for me job satisfaction matters.

#How much do I earn?

When we pick up a job, its always the first question of everyone, What’s the salary?”. Well, fair enough. But coming to my personal opinion, it’s a small part of the bigger challenge. It’s always [… most of the time] based on your skills. At times, we expect more than what we deserve and end up depressed when we don’t get that.

Does it really matter? : Yes. After spending months, we develop the skills required for the job, work hard to gain more knowledge and add them to our skill sets. But still, we get less than what we deserve, which impacts or we can say imbalance a lot of financial things, resulting in stress. So yes, how much do I earn matters.

#My professional skills

I have always believed in a long term relationship. I might be wrong though. But until now, I am with the same company I have joined after graduation. Now it’s merged with another company, and yet I am here, looking forward for another long term. It’s not like I have entered a comfort zone which I don’t want to leave or something like that. It’s just that I enjoy working here. But this will not work only if I want to, it also depends on my employer. Whether they want to retain me or not, am I able to contribute enough towards the growth of the company!.

Does it really matter? : Yes. Day-by-day challenges at work increase due to new innovation in technologies […in my case]. So in order to cope-up with the pace, I need to keep on upgrading my self to become a valuable asset, which in return help establishing a long term relationship with the organization. So yes, my professional skills matter.

#Fun in life

Going on a vacation, meeting with friends, binge-watching a web-series, I love doing these […in-fact most of us]. We all have our own definition of fun in life, we all have our own ways. Participating in recreational activities which you like, helps you maintain a good mental health. A person with a happy mind can better cope up with occupational stress, increase self productivity and can also contribute more at the workplace.

Does it really matter? : Yes. Fun in life is important. I have seen people who are coders/developers, and all the time they are into this thing only. At first, it looks so much exciting, but believe me, they are missing out a lot. In my opinion, I want to explore many things other than just coding. So yes, fun in life matters.

#Its a “Weekend”

I know this might sound weird between serious things I am talking about. But the weekend is actually an important part of our life. Continuously dealing with challenges and stress and workloads throughout the week, the weekend comes. You should do whatever you feel like doing. Go out, meet your friends, do video calls with your friends or family who are staying away, sleep the whole day, watch back-to-back movies. Basically anything you like to do. Nobody should interfere, like literally NOBODY. We are earning to live a good life. If we are not getting time to spend those, always busy with office works, then what’s the point?? Many of you will say, work comes first, we are dealing with a crisis (referring to the current pandemic situation), should work more now to have a better future ahead. Please stop!! If you are not living in present, not able to enjoy now, what’s the guarantee that you will have a better life ahead??

Does it really matter? : Yes. I used to be [..or forced to be] like this, like you, but I am trying to make up things now. If so much of priority, you can think of giving some of your personal time on weekdays, but should not compromise with the weekend. Plus YOU ARE NOT GETTING PAID EXTRA FOR WORKING ON WEEKENDS, […well, not me]. So yes, weekend matters.

#What people at my Workplace think about me?

It s important to have a good relationship with your colleagues. Trust plays an important role at work. It makes you feel comfortable to share your problems, both work as well as personal. We spend most of our time at work in a day. So having a buddy at the workplace can help you deal with your problems or at least you know there is someone to back you up when you are stuck. Never treat your subordinates rudely or your seniors disrespectfully.

Does it really matter? : Yes. In my journey, I have met a lot of people. Also, I have good relationship with my colleagues [… I think so]. Few of them have become good friends irrespective of their position/designation in the organization. Hope to continue with good faith. So, yes, what people at my workplace think about me matters.

#Hobbies

Doing what you love is the cornerstone of having abundance in your life. My hobby is to cook. I like trying out new dishes or experimenting with them. Whenever I feel low or depressed, I cook. There’s never a single day when I haven’t cooked anything[well… almost]. I have developed this hobby because I love to eat and it’s not possible always to go out to have your favourite dish or find exactly what you want to have.

Does it really matter? : Yes. Having a hobby or two is a good thing unless hobby comes in the way of another. Also, I’m developing a hobby of writing. I write small tech-related blogs on medium related my work, topics which I find difficult finding in google, thus helping few developers like me. So yes, hobbies matters.

Thank you.

I'm a developer who loves sharing insights, technical how-tos, and lessons learned from the world of code. While much of what I write may not be groundbreaking, I believe in documenting for future me—and for anyone else who might find it useful. Beyond tech, I also dive into life's experiences and moments, reflecting on personal growth and sharing stories that resonate. Whether you're here for practical tips or a fresh perspective on life, I hope you find something meaningful.
